I made some pistaschio ice cream a little over 2 hours ago with the ice cream maker and it was my first time using it. I have great ice cream here: not hard solid frozen but a nice soft ice cream. I used more heavy cream in relation to the half and half in the recipe and it only took 25 minutes to make instead of 40 minutes. I've had the bowls that you are supposed to freeze in the freezer for the last week [maybe the other reviewers didn't leave the bowls in the freezer long enough?] and after I mixed the cream mixture with the eggs on the stove I left this mixture in the refrigerator for 3 hours instead of the suggested two in the booklet.
I had no problems with this machine, and the ice cream is very similar to the homemade I remember as a child. Also it is very quiet and believe me, it beats turning that crank and having your arm give out first anyday!
I suggest you just leave the bowls in the freezer when not in use, and chill your mixture longer before you make it up.
.....now I can't wait to make some Soy ice cream next weekend!
