Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot SC7500 5-Quart Round VersaWare Slow Cooker, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: Terrific Product - Works Great & Looks Great Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using crockpots since the early 70's, absolutely love crockpot cooking, and have numerous crockpot cookbooks. With crockpots, you can make meals that are economical, nutritious, and delicious. These days I can go onto Google & type in "crockpot recipes" and print off recipes from several websites. Anyhow, I love the Versaware & have used it numerous times. Some of the larger crockpots do not work well unless they are about 3/4 full - not easy if you're just cooking for 2 people & not an army. The somewhat smaller crock on the Versaware is an advantage there. It's great for smaller quantities or dishes that don't require lots of liquid, like soups, although you can do soups in it, as well. I cooked a wonderful minnestrone soup in it just the other night. For chicken soup, using a whole chicken, I used my largest crockpot & made enough to eat & to freeze. The Versaware would be great for recipes requiring chicken breasts, though. If you have a large family & only want one crockpot you might want to buy a larger model.
No, you can't put it on high heat on the stove, but low-medium is adequate for stew beef prior to making a soup or stew & I don't have to clean another pan. I love the color & design & don't mind leaving it on the counter. This one would make a nice wedding shower gift or gift for Mom or Dad. The crock comes out & can be put right on the table (with the really old ones, the crock & base were one unit - if you wanted to bring it to the table, you dragged the cord along with it). Clean-up has been a breeze. Rival is great to work with if, like one of the reviewers, you drop & break the lid. I did that once & they replaced it for the cost of the shipping, so give them a call. For the person who lost the cookbook that came with the unit, same advice.
Description of Crock-Pot SC7500 5-Quart Round VersaWare Slow Cooker, Stainless SteelEnjoy the Beauty and Convenience of the Rival 5 Quart Round VersaWare CrockPot/Slow Cooker Unlike the heavier stoneware crocks found in many slow cookers, this one is made of lightweight Extreme Temperature Cookware (ETC), also called VersaWare, a stoneware so versatile it can be used on a stovetop, in an oven, under a broiler, and in a microwave. The lid is also made of ETC, which makes the five-quart pot ideal for storing pre-assembled foods in the freezer or refrigerator, and baking covered dishes in the oven. Of course, the round crock also sits in the slow-cooker base, an unusual cradle design featuring four metal legs with rubber feet. A single knob sets the cooker at low, high, and keep warm, a convenient setting for maintaining food at just the right serving temperature. On the two cook settings, low and high, the pot can slow-cook a wide variety of stews, roasts, and soups, recipes for which are printed in an included 79-page recipe booklet. Meat can be braised first on the stovetop, and casseroles can be browned under the broiler just before serving. Both the base and crock feature loop-style handles for easy lifting. Measuring 9 by 13 by 10-1/2 inches, with internal dimensions of 9-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, the slow cooker comes with a short, 32-inch cord that removes from the base for storage and lets the entire unit stand alone on a serving buffet. The crock and lid go right into the dishwasher for clean-up. Rival covers the slow cooker with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri
